['həːstn], Zora Neale, amerikanische Schriftstellerin, * Eatonville (Florida) 7. 1. 1891 oder 1903, ✝ Fort Pierce (Florida) 28. 1. 1960; studierte in New York Anthropologie. Sie sammelte afroamerikanische Mythen und Erzählungen aus dem Süden der USA und der Karibik in ihren Büchern »Mules and men« (1935) und »Tell my horse« (1938; 1939 unter dem Titel »Voodoo gods«) und verfasste Dramen und Romane.
 
Weitere Werke: Their eyes were watching God (1937; deutsch Und ihre Augen schauten Gott); Dust tracks on a road (1942); I love myself when I am laughing (herausgegeben 1979; deutsch Ich mag mich, wenn ich lache).
